ProjectX

What is ProjectX and what can I do with it?

European digital radio and television uses the DVB standard to broadcast its data. ProjectX gives you a look behind the transmissions and tries its best to handle and repair many stream types and shows what went wrong on reception.

Here is screenshot of the ProjectX interface...
ProjectX

ProjectX allows you to cut the MPEG files and has a build-in preview mode of the movie, so it's easy to set the cut marks. It's also possible to save the cut marks into a file and to reload them if needed.

I've created a small Flash Demo (see the menu entry on the left) that demonstrates removing commercial breaks from a recording.

The ProjectX website is in german only and includes links to a not uptodate documentation, information how you can compile the code yourself and a forum.

The program has been written by DVBMatt and can be downloaded from Sourceforge.net only in it's sourcecode. To compile the Java sourcecode you need the Java2SE SDK (Java2 Standard Edition Software Develpment Kit).

There are several people that have created unofficial precompiled ProjectX packages. The program itself is written in Java and can therefore be used on different Operating Systems. The only thing needed is a somewhat current Java Runtime (v1.4.x and newer).

There is a Operating System (OS) dependent extension available to speed up displaying preview images. The OS dependent extensions utilize the Java Native Interface (JNI). The sourcecode of this extension is included in the source package of ProjectX and has to be compililed if you use an Operating System where no compiled library is included in the source package. A Windows DLL is already included and future versions of ProjectX should also include a DLL for OS/2 and eComStation (eCS) respectively. The OS/2 and eCS DLL including the corresponding sourcecode have been provided by Roland Brill.

I've created a complete ProjectX package for OS/2 and eComStation which includes a small REXX-Script for the installation (creating desktop symbols, automatic Java Runtime search,...) and which also includes the previously mentioned DLL to speed up displaying the preview images. The used Icons have been provided by the EmperoarTV author Rüdiger (Rudi) Ihle. This package can also be used by users running the Windows or Linux Operating System, but they can't use the supplied installation script. Beside the compiled code the original ProjectX sourcecode is included in the package!

The older ProjectX packages create by me can be found on the Hobbes Server: Download ProjectX

Newer builds are available from Roland Brill who has taken over building the latest versions which can be run on eComStation and OS/2. Normally a newer Java Version (1.5) is needed but he uses Retrotranslator so they also work on Java 1.4. You can download those versions from Roland Brills ProjectX website.

If anyone has questions about EmperoarTV and/or ProjectX on eComStation or OS/2 I suggest you consult the EmperoarTV Forum.
